Eye expert leads research to better predict blindness in patients
The University of Southampton announced Wellcome Trust support for an international study of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) progression.
The PINNACLE / SUMMIT AMD Studies bring together an international team to study progression from intermediate to late age-related macular degeneration. The team uses clinical measures, optical coherence tomography (OCT), genetics, and machine learning.
The Wellcome Trust supported the project from 2019 through 2024 under award 210572/Z/18/Z. Related collaborative work continues. The Southampton announcement outlines the original study aims and names the participating institutions.
